Code Switching in Pakistan

Code Switching in Pakistan
Almost many Pakistanis are multi/bilingual. We use Urdu as a language of communication between different domestic language speakers, thus Urdu working as a lingua franka, we use domestic languages at local level such as Pushto, Punjabi, Sindi, ,Balochi, Baltestani, Hindko, Barahwi, Saraiki and Kashmiri etc and we use English  as a foreign language. People of Pakistan are bilingual/trilingual or generally multilingual. If we consider our situation we can find that in education, media and in many professions people do use mixing of code. Teachers, Media men and specially anchors at TV and radio etc mix languages. They use a mixture of Urdu with English and English with Urdu in teaching, talk shows and live programs and in many situations they mix more than two languages .Code switching is an umbrella term as compared to code mixing. It involves code mixing as well as the switching of language. In this context, if we see, even in classrooms of higher education levels, the teachers switch to and from the L1 to foreign language in their lecture. Under are some possible codes switching in Pakistani languages.
