PROMOTION OF MOTIVATION IN STUDENTS

Introduction

Motivation is originated from “movere” which means to move.

Types of motivation
(i)                Intrinsic motivation
(ii)              Extrinsic motivation

Why are students unmotivated?

(ii)                Inside  Factors

How to promote motivation in students


1.    Creating interest
2.    Arousing curiosity
3.    Developing achievement motivation
4.    Providing incentives
5.    Producing the spirit of competition

Research for promoting motivation in students

          Ten students were asked 10 questions (10x10=100) and then they were asked to also raise their own points about motivation.

Newspaper, journals, magazines etc should be advised as helping materials. Libraries of schools should be used for this purpose to enhance foreign texts reading habits.

Conclusion and recommendations


      Motivation in students is necessary and is direly needed for understanding foreign languages and in order to ensure motivation in students teachers are required to ensure the following :-
(I)           Teacher’s active involvement.
(II)        Students mental level (for syllabus content)
(III)   Students teacher relationship.(To boost student participation and encouragement)
(IV)  Attractiveness of contents.
(V)      Students centered teaching.
(VI)  Activities in teaching.
(VII)          Strengthening base level of students.
